Question on car carry in Tennessee

I was told today by a Tennessee resident that it is illegal to have a round in the chamber while in a vehicle in Tennessee even with a permit. I have looked through some of the statutes and could not find that but maybe I missed it. Is it correct that a weapon cannot be carried with a round in the chamber in a vehicle in Tennessee even with a gun permit recognized by Tennessee?

I did find this statute but it applies to loaded rifles and loaded shotguns.
Public Chapter 431 – Loaded Rifles and Shotguns in Vehicles – This act allows a person with a handgun carry permit to possess a loaded rifle or loaded shotgun in a privately owned vehicle. The act provides that the weapon cannot have ammunition in the chamber except in the case that an individual permit holder feels physically threatened

First time I've ever heard that one.
After a quick search of Tennessee laws I see nothing related to the matter. Doesn't mean it's not there, but seems like it would have been posted somewhere before.

The law applies to long arms only. Those with a valid Handgun Carry Permit (and Tennessee recognizes all other state permits [for handgun carry only]) can carry a loaded handgun--with one in the chamber if it is a pistol.

I can't say what the law is for a jurisdiction, but it can be
a serious limitation and risk if a round is not in the chamber.

At least it should have a double action trigger, or uncocked single action,
or an engaged safety, and be in a secured enclosure/holster.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm glad to know that I haven't been breaking the law as I go to Tennessee at least once a month and have always carried with a round in the chamber! When the guy from Tennessee told me that it was against the law, I thought I'd better check it out. THANKS

Since you asked about handguns, above is true. However since long arms were brought up, even with HCP you can't carry a long gun in car with one in chamber. magazine/tube can be full and attached, but chamber to be empty

But, this Wednesday or Thursday, I have to remember to separate my loaded magazines from my pistol, and store them likewise, before I cross the Georgia border. I wish that it would be best if Ohio and Georgia would quit this nonsense and this CCW ******* contest, that causes pestering and arrests.
