Thumbs up Contact with armed citizen today.

So we have plenty of "LEO Encounter" threads on the forum, I figured I'll put a twist on it.

I was working my regular shift and responded to a minor traffic collision in the parking lot of one of our local big name out door box stores. One pickup had been backing into a parking stall, and in the stall right next to it a truck had been backing out. I asked the two drivers if any one was hurt, and then for license and insurance. Driver A handed me his license, insurance and CCW permit. He stated that he was carrying at the time. Driver A was probably 40-50 6' 220# or so, (im not so big...:-) )I asked him what he was carrying, and he stated that it was a 1911. After the other driver was issued his citation and Driver A got his paper work back I asked him what kind of 1911, he told me it was a Colt, but was extensively modified... I had to restrain myself from asking ot take a look at it! At any rate, I thanked him for letting me know he was carrying, and told him I wish more people took thier safety as seriously as he did. He said thanks and went on his way. He was even nice enough to tell me that it didn't look like my trunk was shut all the way (I have an old beat up patrol car... sometimes it takes a little extra force to close it!)

    I love Alaska!

You cops have to deal with the 'special' amomg us so much that's it's kinda cool to hear about a "better than usual" encounter..........although the stories about those 'bright and shiny examples' are worth listening to and laughing at!

You should've asked for "saftey inspection" just to get a look at it.........:)

I agree with Goldshellback...you coulda asked him for an inspection "for your safety. " :) Glad it went really well.

I've had more than a few encounters with LEO as a CCW, all from the side of a good guy, witness, bystander, or victim of a property crime. I have yet to have one of the dreaded bad encounters! Every time it's been no problem and very professional.

Also, from me to you USMC, thanks for being the thin blue line.

You mean you didn't throw him to the ground and handcuff him. Then take his pistol and unloaded and field strip it. Then hand it back to him and tell him to put back together blind folded! I am shocked!
    Well done USMC.

Excellent! I have never had a bad experience with LEO while carrying here in Texas, other than getting the ticket part.....

Actually, I am 3 and 1 on getting a ticket versus not getting one while carrying. Probably the radar detector sitting on the dash. Seems some LEO have no sense of humor

Other than a car accident, a good experience.
