Received Notification Today to Pick Up CC Permit
Talked to the wife today (I'm traveling in OH). She said that the notice to pick up my CC permit from the local sheriffs department arrived today from the Kentucky State Police.
***In KY, you must first successfully complete an approved CCDW class. In KY, the acronym for CC is CCDW. Typical cost is $75.00 for the eight-hour course, which include range time to show proficiency with a firearm.
I completed mine November 14, 2009.
***Within five days the instructor must submit to the Kentucky Department for Criminal Justice Training notification that the course was successfully completed.
***Within 15 days of receiving information from the Certified Instructor, the DOCJT will, if the applicant successfully completed the training, issue a Certificate of Training.
I received my certificate December 1, 2009.
***Applicant submits Certificate of Training, application material, and $60 fee to sheriff’s office in county in which applicant resides. Within five working days, the sheriff transmits the application and accompanying materials to the Kentucky State Police (KSP).
I submitted mine to the sheriffs office December 3, 2009.
***KSP will conduct background check and issue or deny license to applicant within 90 days.
KSP mails “Flash Pak” to Applicant notifying Applicant to pick up license at sheriff’s office. Applicant becomes licensee and may carry weapon concealed. License must be renewed five years from date of issue.
As mentioned my notification to pick up my CCDW permit arrived in the mail today, January 6, 2010.
All told, from the date I took my CCDW course until the time I received notification to pick up my permit at the sheriffs office was about 7 1/2 weeks.
Glad to finally receive it, but think it's quite the effort to exercise a right that "shall not be infringed."
