Received Notification Today to Pick Up CC Permit

Talked to the wife today (I'm traveling in OH). She said that the notice to pick up my CC permit from the local sheriffs department arrived today from the Kentucky State Police.

***In KY, you must first successfully complete an approved CCDW class. In KY, the acronym for CC is CCDW. Typical cost is $75.00 for the eight-hour course, which include range time to show proficiency with a firearm.

    I completed mine November 14, 2009.

***Within five days the instructor must submit to the Kentucky Department for Criminal Justice Training notification that the course was successfully completed.

***Within 15 days of receiving information from the Certified Instructor, the DOCJT will, if the applicant successfully completed the training, issue a Certificate of Training.

    I received my certificate December 1, 2009.

***Applicant submits Certificate of Training, application material, and $60 fee to sheriff’s office in county in which applicant resides. Within five working days, the sheriff transmits the application and accompanying materials to the Kentucky State Police (KSP).

I submitted mine to the sheriffs office December 3, 2009.

***KSP will conduct background check and issue or deny license to applicant within 90 days.

KSP mails “Flash Pak” to Applicant notifying Applicant to pick up license at sheriff’s office. Applicant becomes licensee and may carry weapon concealed. License must be renewed five years from date of issue.

As mentioned my notification to pick up my CCDW permit arrived in the mail today, January 6, 2010.

All told, from the date I took my CCDW course until the time I received notification to pick up my permit at the sheriffs office was about 7 1/2 weeks.

Glad to finally receive it, but think it's quite the effort to exercise a right that "shall not be infringed."

    Well congratulations anyway!

And from what I've read, your wait was still alot shorter than alot of peoples' (Which I also think is an outrage).

    I wish you safe travels.

We have a great Sherriff where I live. I submitted my application, and was told it might take a few weeks. Five days later my permit came in the mail

Congratulations on the quick turn around of your application. The backlog must not be as bad as it when I applied for mine back in March 2009. It took 75-80 days. From a fellow Kentuckian, welcome to the best forum on the net.

Congratulations to the permit from FL

If you already have not done it, it is not now when the hardest (and funniest) part starts; finding a carry piece and a nice holster. But it is worth. Congrats again!

It was nearly 10 years ago, so I do not remember how long it took to get my first CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) permit here in Sunny California..... I friend of mine recently received his in the mail within 2 weeks of turning in the paperwork to the County Sheriff.

Two additional issues strike me as odd here in California:

-1. Each County Sheriff can effectively dream up their issuing criteria by bureaucratic fiat.

There is no effective recourse. They can pretty much do whatever they want.

Consequently, some Counties are virtually shall issue, whereas in others an average citizen has no hope of ever receiving a CCW.

    CCW's by County - Calguns.net

-2. Here in California, us average citizens must spend significant sums of money and time to jump through hoops and renew every two years. But if you are a civilian working in the courts then you may qualify for a super-duper 3 year deal.

What ever happened to due process and equal protection under the law???

I live in the Metropolitan Detroit area and there is such a huge volume of applications that today the Sheriff's office won't even forecast when you might get one, after you've made application.
I applied for mine on 4/30/09 and on 7/23/09 I got mine in the mail. The written process states that applicants must present themselves before a review board before you can get it, so, I called the Sheriff's office and said "What's up?'

The woman I spoke with told me that they were inundated with applications and that they began doing mass approvals with out doing the reviews.

    The wait varies

I live in Northern KY, my wife and I took the class and applied at the same time (early October). My permit came in three weeks, hers took two months. Luck of the draw, I guess.
