There may be nothing to explain really... it is what it is. It think she was right and it was first issued in January after all. I just seem to be confused by the other issue date.

A couple of corrections... then a flabbergasting report!

The number to call for things like this is 803 896 7099 (I mistakenly put the Fax number up there in the earlier post)

so again, the fax number you would then send things they may ask for would be 803 896 7048

Now... you may not believe this but, in my mail box at about 12:10 today is my new CWP with the corrected expiration date! Unceremoniously in a envelope from SLED. Just a form letter sort of inclusion of generic "here's your Permit... bla bla bla" (and one I never got before so it must be kind of a new thing). But they must have done the new Card and got it in the mail yesterday within an hour or so of my fax. It can be as quick as 1 day from Columbia to here (about 100 miles) and it was this time.

It has the January date which they insist is right and I believe they are correct now.

But, have to say this, SLED is on the ball when it comes to this sort of thing.

But it is correct now. But now I kinda miss my coordinated DL/CWP/BD set up! LOL

Another update... I just got this email from the General Council at SLED.

Note that I have since answered him and assured him that his people have, so far, not provided any erroneous information. They all did a superb job. But I wanted some of the others of you out there to see what a terrific job our SLED is now doing and also that they are reading the forum. Hopefully they will chime in from time to time. It was extremely nice of him to take the time to follow up like this. And thank you Angelica and Jennifer for your work.

    Mr. Philip,

My name is Todd Hagins and I am the General Counsel at SLED. I read
your concerns and issues with your CWP expiration on the
Defensive carry website. I am glad we were able to resolve your
specific concerns in a timely manner. As part of my duties I will be
meeting with the unit chiefs in charge with CWPs this week and will
attempt to find out an explanation for the confusion as well as to
ensure that if an employee provided incorrect information that our
employees are provided correct information so that it may be relayed
to the public. I hope to have an answer for you so that you may post
it onto the website for others' use.

Yea.. I mean he didn't have to do that. It was above and beyond the call.

Now I just hope he doesn't tell the ladies I said they were hot

Of course... then again...that may not hurt me any at all!

I already thanked him by email today for responding and taking the time to do so and I asked him to make sure that the two ladies that both helped me get it resolved were thanked as well. Obviously they did their job without any extra motivation or pressure. They simply did it quick and efficiently on their own.

Now... if I could maybe just get him to discuss this idiotic stance and interpretation by the Attorney General and convince the AG he is wrong about the SC law on carrying in establishments that serve alcohol on the premises I would feel wonderful about the whole thing and REALLY thank them. Or thank anyone willing to do it. But... until then no carry at most restaurants in SC, even when not drinking according to our AG. But I digress....

I'm with you on this. I've spent quite a bit of time in PA lately and it's nice not to have to disarm when you just want to grab some dinner.

I might give em a buzz today.

Plus... whats really interesting is that the CWP also shows its issue date. And mine says 8-30-2007

Your DL (in SC) also has your issue date listed as well. Which is 07-29-2005 on mine. Our Licenses are always due on our birthday that year so mine is the 15th and you have like 90 days to renew after the fact.

The back of the CWP card even says the card was issued by SC DMV. However the CWP one gives a different address for the DMV office that issued it. So the DMV is the one processing the cards for SLED.
The picture and signature that is on my DL is the exact same one as is on my CWP. In spite of having to submit pictures they use the DMV one. So it is likely they use other data from the DL and simply pulled up the DL expiration date and failed to change it before printing it out.
Mine isn't like that at all.
SLED's central address is listed on the back.
And no SC DMV is not the issuing authority for your CWP in SC. I think you miss-read the backs there.

Now, the last DMV photo and signature you have on record is used on your CWP.

Your right... at least now your right. Or sometime after this one I have marked issued 08-10-2007 it changed.

The new one does say SLED. But older ones (at least both my older ones) are DMV addresses on the back.

Note that I wrote that based upon the current one I had in hand. And what I wrote is still correct because I can look at them and see it clearly says DMV on the back of it. The two older ones have "DMV PO Box 1498 Columbia SC 29216-0030". The one I recieved yesterday says SLED..... So that has changed. Your welcome to examine the old ones if you like.

I did not claim DMV to be the "issuing authority". I only speculated that they were using DMV' system to produce them. And that is still probably the case if they have access to your last DMV photo and signature I would still speculate. Or at least they have access to the data base.

Response from Todd Hagins today. Pretty much sums it up and explains the difficulties they face. Working for a State Agency the last 30 plus years myself I know all about the cuts. Am surprised how far behind they are in their Computer Technology though. Hats off to Todd and SLED for doing what they do with what they have to work with.

We had a saying here at Clemson for a long time that went like this "we have done so much with so little for so long that we are now qualified to do something with nothing".

I think I will frame that and send it up to SLED too.

    Here is Todds email to me this evening;

    Mr. Carroll,

I spoke with the Agent in Charge of the CWP Unit about this matter. We
determined it was a simple case of human entry error where someone typed
the incorrect expiration date. As much as we try to make sure such
things do not occur unfortunately they do. Over the last year and a
half SLED has worked to try and improve the speed with which we process
CWP applications. As you are aware South Carolina saw a dramatic
increase in CWP applications over that time period while SLED also has
had to absorb 30%+ budget cuts. Those cuts have delayed some of our
projects to automate the CWP process to make it more efficient and
decrease customer turn-around time. Unfortunately part of our on-going
usage of 1970s - early 1980s COBOL main frame system requires that we
rely on individuals for data entry purposes. It appears your issue was
caused by a failure on our end. I sincerely apologize for any problems
    this may have caused you.

If I may be of any additional help you have my e-mail.
