In a deadly force situation, the only certainty is that a given situation is not going to exactly match statistical averages. Who's to say how much ammo will be needed before the deadly threat is terminated. As well, equipment can fail. Since all magazine holders I carry allow for the carry of two spares, I see no reason to carry fewer than two spare magazines with me.

It isn't about round count, per se. It's about having options. Can't use what you don't have with you.

I don't currently carry concealed because I'm still patiently waiting on my VM-II , but when I do carry open and when I will carry concealed I carry a SIG P220 with one 8rnd in gun and at least one 10rnd on my weak side because like many have said before in case of magazine malfunction. I also carry a benchmade apprition on my strong side front pocket. Besides who ever lost a gun fight because they had too much ammo?

Carry one spare mag for my Glock 36. I figure if I need more then 13 rounds then I'd probably be better off throwing rocks at the bad guy.

So if I get the bigger 9mm or 40 cal big black gun, then I could revert to using the new LCP as the backup if desired. It's so tiny, almost weighs less than a spare mag for a larger gun.

I also like the idea posted about using pda and phone cases for magazines.

Do you carry a LCP? In that case I agree with you; get at least a nine to use as primary CC, and then use the LCP as BUG. I do not know if I should use a PDA or phone case for mags; you can find very nice mag carriers.

    As a non-LEO I don't carry any extra ammunition.

My CCW holds 5 rounds of .38+P. I don't think I will ever be in a self-defense situation where I have the need, time, or ability to reload.

He probably thinks that the laser will guarantee he hits his target so he won't need a spare mag. At least that's my guess.

One spare mag - for my PM9 in a pocket mag holster; for my XD 40 SC in a pouch on the holster.

I don't really think a defensive shooting is likely to require a mag change; but I know people panic fire some and with only 6+1 in the PM9 I definitely want the recharge (if nothing else, for after the shooting but before I'm sure all threats are stopped). Also you have to consider magazine or feed failures though a BUG would be a much better option to carry for that than an extra mag. In fact I've considered carrying a .380 instead of an extra mag.

to defend the extra ammo thing I would like to say that (even though you have a better chance of being struck by lightning) if you are in a situation with multiple tangos you have to get back to your car the more rounds you have on your person the better chances you have.

If anyone has ever seen the show "surviving disaster" the mall shooting episode dictates how easy a coordinated terrorist group can lock down a place... had one of the people in his group been armed with CCW and range time their chances would have been much, much, much greater to get out alive.
Carrying just 1 more magazine will give you SO much more firepower.

Keep in mind that generally if you shoot a 3" group at the range you can add about 6" to that in a stressful situation. Having extra ammunition and the luxury of cover to reload your pistol can definitly up your chances to stay alive.

GM, yes. I am currently looking for a 9mm or 40 cal.

For me it's a process, I could not just jump into carrying any of my larger calibers, as they were not purchased as carry guns but more "wouldn't it be cool" type guns. I am over that now, liquidating the old and in with the new.
