Security Clearance and CCW
Hi ladies and gents, new here to the board and the ccw world. I’ve been trying to figure out if obtaining a ccw permit would hinder me obtaining security clearance for a new job. Should I hold off on getting my ccw until I have obtained my security clearance?

Theres nothing illegal or unethical about a CHL, nor does it indicate a susceptibility to compromise national security, so it should not be an issue.

I had a clearance when I applied for mine and I think it helped my CHL go through. No problems or discussion with my security folks. I would say go for it!

To the best of my knowledge, it's not a "criterion".
I once talked to a guy in usenet who had a friend who was being processed for a TS. The numbskull who interviewed him, told him that his being in the NRA would keep him from getting his clearance. I told the guy to have his friend SPECIFICALLY ask the guy from DIS if being an NRA member was a "criterion". I was an FSO at the time and knew it wasn't. Word came back not too much later that he'd gotten his TS. If being gay or belonging to a wife swapping club weren't criteria (and I knew from my DIS rep that they weren't), I KNEW that being in the NRA wasn't. Likewise having a CCW credential.

No, I proudly show mine, at gun shows, because it also shows that you have had a background check.

I maintained a security clearance for several years in the military. I can’t imagine any conflict whatsoever, other than Eric Holder seems to pursue law abiding citizens and government agents, more than he does with criminals. Ok, the last part I was sorta kidding. Apply away my friend and join the growing list.

Not at all. I have a top secret in my job with the government. Mine has not been a problem in the last 8 years.

Never had a problem.
That said, some anti-RKBA supervisor might just not select someone for any reason, as long as they don't admit it -- just picked someone who fit better.

Your ccw permit is by a state government. The clearance is for the feds.
If the feds can't catch the scumbag Christmas day bomber terrorist (opps, I mean Mr. Alleged Perpetrator) because the CIA is not talking to Homeland Security, then I doubt anyone will red flag your clearance due to a permit app.
