New Sheriff in Town--I Hope

Our County Sheriff recently retired. The interim Sheriff is running for the Sheriff and has posted this on his campaign website:

My position on concealed weapons permits -

I have been an enthusiastic gun owner for most of my life and believe in an individual’s Constitutional right to “keep and bear arms.” As a matter of course, I will issue concealed weapons permits to any applicant who is a law abiding resident of the county, meets state mandated requirements and is not prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. I consider personal protection sufficient to meet the standard of good cause.

As you may have heard, California is a May Issue state, but my county has largely been considered Shall Issue. The last Sheriff wanted a thorough "statement of good cause" (mine was three paragraphs long). It would be great to get a Sheriff who would allow us to just write "personal protection."

It would also be great if the Bill of Rights was wholly applied to the states, as that is the documented intention of the 14th amendment.

Any chance you can renew your permit early before his interimship runs out?

I've heard horror stories from some counties in CA regarding may issue... sometimes it means "not a chance, no way, no how" may you get your permit.

Hope he keeps his promise to you all. Seems like the last Sheriff didn't need the gun supporting community to stay in office.

Yeah, I'm in Butte County--which is a long way from San Francisco weirdness and LA psuedo-intellectuals.

The last sheriff was a good pro-2A guy, just made us go through the paces to get permits.

Grady, the election's this june so it's way to early to renew.
