Non Lethal Rounds?
I was listening to a local radio talk show and the subject of Washington legislature's attempt at an "assault weapon ban" came up. A listener called in and mentioned that he CC'd and that the first two rounds he has loaded are non lethal, saying that he wanted to avoid the hassle of killing someone if possible. My thought was that he's setting himself up to be a potential victim if he is in a life threatening situation and his first rounds don't take out the BG. What are your thoughts? Do you carry non lethal rounds? If so, why?

Yes, in fact I started to carry a Nerf gun instead of my Glock. It is lighter and more colorful.

I was taught to ELIMINATE the danger... not bruise the danger... not... well, you get the picture.

1. Just because the rounds are marketed as "non-lethal", that doesn't mean the rounds won't kill from the blunt force trauma (i.e. throat, heart, head, etc)...
2. Seriously, I haven't seen non-lethal pistol rounds available to the civilian market (but that doesn't mean they don't exist)--but the listener could be full of it...
3. If you are going to use a firearm, you are using lethal force.

I can see a trial attorney right now in my head
----dream sequence---
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, my client is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life due to the hatred and cruelty of defendant. The defendant knowing loaded his weapon with ammuniton that is DESIGNED TO MAIN instead of kill.
The defendant purposely chose this ammunition with the intent to cripple and cause pain. Therefore you must find for my client and award him his due."

Exactly. Although we "shoot to stop", if we are justified in drawing our weapon, we're justified in killing. It's not a threat or a deterrent, it's a means to save your life.
Non-lethal rounds put you back in the defensive posture. You can be assured the BG is carrying lethal rounds and you can be assured HE won't hesitate to kill you to achieve his ends or stay out of prison - again.
My carry 9mm carry is loaded with 13+1 of Corbon DPX, and my .40 S&W carry has 10+1 of Speer Gold Dot. Lethal all the way, and I shoot COM.

less lethal tools, yes I carry them. Pepper spray and flashlight. By the time I need a firearm, it's way past that. He needs to get some spray if he does not want to shoot someone in self defense. It's a stupid idea. And if it's in a revolver that would leave him with 3-4 rds left. Would a semi even cycle anything like that?

Don't paint your nerf gun black, you won't be able to tell them apart.

Even LEO's when they use less than lethal it's not in a faceoff with a potential armed threat and they have other officers ready to respond with deadly force if the suspect responds with violence,Less than Lethal is used to stun long enough to go hands on,It does not incapacitate and in the time it takes to fire two rounds, you may end up dead, especially in the winter time when people use more cover garments,IMHO that guy is an idiot

Even a 'blank round' can kill at close to moderate range. As to the other comment: yes, we shoot to stop but if the BG dies in the process, that's simply a consequence to stopping...

The person that made that phone call must live in his own planet. Of course he will avoid the hassle of killing someone, because he will be dead first.

If I ever have to shoot, I will shoot to stop, not tick the other guy off.
