Pulled over for the first time since 2004

I was pulled over for the first time today since I left me LEO job and started carrying as a civilian. I recently moved to Pikeville, NC from Wilmington, NC and I have an office nearby in Goldsboro.

I turned right on red at at intersection that was posted as no turn on red and the policeman that was following me was quick to follow and pull me over.

I had both hands on the wheel with my drivers license and permit in hand by the time he got to my window. He immediately asked me if I knew why he pulled me over. I replied no and as NC requires I notified him that I am a permit holder and I had my pistol on my right hip.

He said good to know and informed me that he thinks every citizen should carry a gun when they leave their house and that it would make his job a whole lot easier. I took advantage od the opening to tell him I was an LEO for ten years (shameful I know but I want to keep my clean driving record).

He aske dwho I had worked for and then started telling me how great their department was and how much he enjoyed going to work every day. He finally got around to telling me I had turned on red when I wasn't supposed to. He never looked at my DL or permit and said to have a great day.

We all know that everyone has a story but this sign was posted across six lanes of traffic, on a pole and not on a wire next to the traffic light & there was a crazy homeless man dancing on the street corner that had a lot of my attention. My wife even mentioned the homeless guy and how antics distracted us to the cop. The funny part was the cop knew the guy by his full name.

That would be distracting, and I do hate poorly posted signs.

We all know some of those guys by name, I bet you knew some too.LOL

Which was it, having a permit, or 10 years of professional courtesy?

    You buzzed him Maddy!

Well, technically not but I'm proud of you just the same. No harm in trying, for your service you've earned a little mercy now and again!

I hear you. I have actively looked for such signs and still missed them on occasion.

    Glad it worked out.

there is an intersection here that WAS posted for "no right on red". the sign has recently been removed, yet I can't seem to bring myself to turn on red at that intersection.

    its kinda weird actually

    Sounds perfect...
It is utterly illogical to believe that passing laws to reduce gun violence will be successful when those who are commiting the gun violence do not obey the law.
