    Kentucky CCW??

well i am turning 21 at the begining of july and will taking my course ASAP and was wondering what all is involved in the course... I have been training with my new HK USPC 40 for about a month now and am ready for the shooting portion just dont know what else to expect... Also the fingerprinting part is that electronic or is that the old fashion way... And how long is the usual wait to get your license so i can make the required trip to the wally world...

    Rangerman2003,
Welcome. Where in Ky are you?

Ky CCW is fairly easy. I've had mine for several years. As I recall, the training was something like 8 hours classroom and then "qualification". The classroom was really dry but pay close attention. CCW is a huge responsibility. The qualification is a breeze. It's something like 11 of 20 in the black at 7 yards. (foggy recollection).
The photo specifications were very particular. I had CCW in no time.

Sorry for less than great details. It's been a while.

BTW-if you are in the Louisville or Lexington area, there's USPSA shooting every weekend within about an hours drive. Excellent practice.

He's right on the qualifications and stuff. 8 hours in the classroom (with a supposedly new video, it's still awful) and 11 of 20 at the range at 7 yds. I wasn't fingerprinted and neither was the old lady (who just turned hers in) when we filed our applications at the Sherriff's office. Took mine about 3 weeks to come back. So far her's has been in 2 weeks, so probably see it soon. I've heard they are rather particular about the photos as well. They'll take the picture for you at the Lex office for 5 bucks. I had mine done by the instructor though. He did it for 3.

Where exactly is this shooting stuff at Airedale?

There's USPSA every weekend around here.

Near Lexington is Wilmore (Bluegrass Sportsmans League). We shoot there the 1st Sunday of each month (except June due to the Ky State pistol match).
This weekend is steel challenge at Silver Creek on Saturday and KAPS near Bardstown on Sunday.
Silver Creek match is second Sunday and Hidden Hills (at Silver Creek) is on third Sunday.
Every place I shoot welcomes new shooters and those new to USPSA.

Those links will take you to all the places I normally shoot.
    Great fun!

How big is the target? (not that it matters to me in Ohio, just curious)

Lifesize male torso. Maybe a bit bigger actually.

It is easy. I scored 21 hits with 20 shots out of a .22 short semi auto with a barrel barely 3/4 inch longer than the bullet. Before anyone says anything, it was borrowed, and yes I got teased, but while I didn't have the tightest grouping, I did manage 21 holes with 20 bullets! (the staple came out of one side of the paper, and the wind folded it in half. I guessed and got it right. LOL!)

Yeah, imo it's a larger than normal sized man target. I got bored after 10 rounds and started to shoot the head and sleeves (any black counts). The instructors found it funny at least.
