Tennessee restaurant carry?
I know that the ruling on carrying in a restaurant that serves alcohol in Tennessee has changed back and forth lately. What is the current ruling? I will be going to Gatlinburg next week and was wanting to make sure I did everything I could to stay on the right side of the law.

I haven't lived in Tn for 6 years but I remember the rule was no CC in the bar area, but the main restaurant was fine. Goggle the TN handgun law just to cover yourself

Thanks for the response. I know they recently made it where you couldn't carry in a restaurant that served, then back to where you could but not in the bar area, then back to not at all. I was hoping a current resident may be able to shed some light on the subject.

One could lawfully carry in a Tennessee restaurant where alcohol is poured from July 14, 2009 to November 20, 2009 exclusively. It was a very long time before it was legal before then and it's not legal now.
Hopefully the legislature will come up with something new soon.

No carry in ANY part of any restaraunt that sells alcohol for consumption on premises. O'Charleys, Ruby Tuesday, Olive Garden, etc, are off limits while carrying.

For now a Tennessee judge overturned the ruling to carry in restaurants where alcohol is served. Email Representative Curry Todd rep.curry.todd@capitol.tn.gov and express your support to overturn this judges decision.

I live in the area and I don't carry in Gatlinburg at all, due to the
fact that highway 441 both north and south of the city is part
of the National Park system. But after Feb 22nd the law changes.
I'd keep it in the trunk driving between Piegon Forge and Gatlinburg
until the 22nd.

Make sure you check the local laws, because some cities in Tennessee have outlawed carrying a firearm in any restaurant even if they don't serve alcohol, I'm not sure about Gatlinburg though.

Thanks for all of the responses. I will leave it in the car or room if we go to anywhere I know will be serving alcohol. I will be going up on the 23rd, so the national park carry should be good.

No, they haven't. But if they did, the local laws could not be lawfully enforced because they violate state law.

Unless that law was written before April of 1986, it would not be a valid law do the the partial state pre-emption (I say partial due to the date issue).

As of now, you are banned from taking your firearm into ANY place that serves alcohol for consumption. No matter whether you drink or not.

We redlined while in high gear then downshifted for some reason.
