I went to the Bahamas with Carnival. NO Weapons. Their exception lists pocket knives under 4 inches. Customs took my 3 1/2 inch folding knife because it has a serrated edge and spring assist. When we returned I went to get it and they tried to tell me they threw it out and had a policy not to return knives. I did convice a nice lady to look and did get my knife back....

Walking Canes for mobility, self defense, exercise and rehabilitation - by Cane Masters

Other than this - you might could get a sinus spray bottle & replace the contents with a homemade pepper spray compound.

Thanks for the info. I'll call the cruise line about pocket knives.

For the pickpockets, I plan to get a Smartcarry plus and keep the money, passport, etc in the secret pouch.

You can't carry firearms in the Miami terminal or on board. My wife and I go cruising once a year and there are metal detectors at check in and you go through detectors boarding the ship at port. In Jamaica you get searched returning to the ship. Caymen Islands are a tender port and it far and away the easiest to just grad a taxi and head to 7 mile beach. Do take a small mag light. We use the in room safes for passports and valuables and use a closed account ATM card for the key to the safe.

I checked my bag with a 3 inch knife into the cruise ship; because of the knife I didnt get my bag for 2 days. After 2 days they gave me my bag (finally some clean underwear) but kept the knife and implied that they delayed my bag because of the knife. At the end of the cruise I was in a hurry to depart to catch a plane; Now they insisted that I sign papers to get the knife back. I really just wanted to leave the knife, but no go; I was delayed being forced to reclaim the knife. DONT take a knife!!!!

I have one of these and a Fenix light attached to my keys. I just toss them all into the baskets at the metal detectors and it has always made it through at ships and airports.

This is not a weapon but a small knife that sure comes in handy for a lot of things while you are away from home.

Question- If you just have the firearm secured in your POV driving through the initial cruiseline ECP are you in violation? Signs posted in Port Everglades, florida seaport ECP. Blue signs of a handgun and I believe it says "no weapons allowed" under them. Is that just forewarning not to remove from your POV once parked? They have random checks. I can't see driving hundreds of miles without the peace keeper at least in my car! I would think they are fixated on catching the "square" grouper....Let me know what you think. Thanks

Under Florida State Statute 311.12 (7) Seaport security standards; inspections; compliance; appeals. -- Any person who has in his or her possession a concealed weapon, or who operates or has possession or control of a vehicle in or upon which a concealed weapon is placed or stored, while in a designated restricted area on seaport property commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. This subsection does not apply to active-duty certified federal or state law enforcement personnel, or persons so designated by the seaport director in writing.

July 1, 2006 Florida passed a NEW Seaport Security Law, within this law there are several changes. One change regards the possession of weapons on Seaports. The changes in the make it unlawful to:

Possess a weapon on a seaport
Keep a weapon in your vehicle on a seaport.
    Weapons (to include firearms)

    Concealed knives
    Brass knuckles
    Slung shot
    Billie clubs
    Tear gas
    Chemical weapon or device
Any other items used for the purpose of causing death or injury to another
