Anti article of the NRA convention

New York Daily News
Dear Mr. Daly,
I read your article of the 2006 NRA convention today. I still hold a fair amount of confusion with your comparisons of said convention with victims of gun violence in New York City.
Tell me sir, do you make the same analogies with General Motors Corporation, when a driver steers his automobile into a crowd of people? No, I suppose you haven't. According to every legitimate study I have ever seen, automobiles are overwhelmingly involved in more incidents that result in injury and fatality to any one class of person, save the horrors of war.
While gun related deaths are certainly a tragedy, denouncing an instrument because it has been perverted in the use of a tragedy, serves little purpose. How many times has a recording instrument, pen, typewriter, ink press, computer, et al, been used in a perverse manner to harm someone? Do you see the point?
Reading your piece, I presume that you are very much opposed to firearm ownership and have clouded your op-ed as legitimate journalism. A fair and balanced report with factual insight regarding firearms, instead of emotional trauma of criminal acts that just happened to involve the unlawful use of a firearms, would have gone further to make your point. Given the tone of your piece, my sarcastic senses are surprised that a full scale killing spree didn't occur with the vast numbers of firearms present in Milwaukee this past weekend.
You'll be happy to know that firearm ownership in New York City is heavily regulated under the Sullivan act for the past 100 years. However, according to studies conducted by the United States Department of Justice over the past 25 years, my city of residence (Indianapolis) where firearms are not heavily regulated, violent crime is dramatically lower than New York City, Chicago and other major cities with near bans of firearms. Furthermore, states which have passed "shall issue" gun laws, have experienced a sharp decline in violent crime and a decrease in overall crime. Would you please care to rationally explain the results of these studies with legitimate scientific studies to prove otherwise?
It is my hope that the police will always be present to timely intercede on your behalf if you or your loved ones are unfortunate enough to experience being victims of a violent crime. I choose to stack the odds in my favor until the police arrive.
