A question for our Canadian members...
I know that firearm carry for the average citizen in Canada is non-existent. There are certain states/cities in the US where nearly the same condition exists. However, in those states/cities, it is almost always possible for the wealthy and very well connected to get "special permission" to carry firearms. I was wondering if a similar condition exists in Canada. Is there a way for the "special privileged few "to get permission from the government to be armed?
Just curious,
Gonzo

Best of my knowledge, CA does have a system but even the top politicians aren't issued permission.

I currently only serve local customers and do not ship ammunition. Thanks for understanding.

Ouch! That is a bummer, I had not noticed your location until you pointed it out G.B. I am dead sure you have your reasons, but I couldn't stay. Best to you!

You probably noticed my signature too. What can I say, Victoria is home for me. I've lived here almost all my life.

OK, Family is the anchor and that can never be argued. Again G.B., best to you and yours....

I thought I read somewhere that Canada is loosening up on weapons restrictions.
Guess not.

The long gun registry may be abolished -- but that's about it.

Not yet it hasn't, but we're hoping.

I'll crack open a Molson in the spirit of reclaiming Canada's freedom, while simultaneously hoping you all get slaughtered on the ice (in hockey! Not literally, of course.)

Are you sure you can handle one of those all by yourself? After all, it is a real beer, not that horse urine you're used to!

From my understanding there are about 51 CCW licences granted at this time. Several judges have mentioned that they have carried with a permit, it's also suspected that several Hells Angels/Mafia types received CCW while giving evidence.
The law in Canada does allow anyone to get the CCW, but in practice it's almost impossible. They won't publish any standards for the training required, they used to have a form but they say they don't have one now, but there are .PDF copies of the form on the internet. We are trying to pin them down to publish a standard for need and training required, they don't want to because it limits their ability to say no.
