If it is illegal I do not carry. I do not condone breaking the law; if you want to do that it is your decision, but do not recommend it to other people.

Even when not illegal, expulsion from a university due to that behavior implies that the student will encounter major difficulties being accepted by other University. Unless the individual does not mention that he/she assisted to other university before - and therefore needs to start his/her academic studies from the very beginning again – he/she will not easily be accepted by other university (a good one). Transferring will be almost impossible.

The "no guns" rule on campus is probably set by state law, not the wishes of the admin staff. Need to petition your legislature, not some woman who sent out the e-mail. She's probably doing all she can.

I am wondering if I should send an email to the woman who sent out this message asking her and the other staff members to give some serious thought to allowing students to carry on campus.

In the past 3-4 months, I have had 2 friends robbed at Gun/Knifepoint and heard 2 seperate incidents of shots fired less than a mile from campus. I just cannot fathom what kind of person wouldn't allow students to arm themselves in these circumstances.

For those interest here is the message.
I'm at a major Texas university, and we get these emails at a minimum of one every two weeks. I thought about replying and bringing up the idea of cc, but I think it would be better not to single one's self out. Plus, in Texas, it's a state law preventing cc on campus. Not sure about Ohio.

I think the best thing you can do in this case is to pass this along to your friends and let them know they should up theith situation awareness on campus and at least get some OC spray or something.

You guys should see how many are issued by Georgia Tech every week. It has to be the most dangerous campus in America by a long shot.

We have a pretty serious bill that just made it out of Senate subcommittee that would decriminalize campus carry. The movement has been given a lot of momentum by the crap that's been happening at GT/GSU for the last few years. If you want to change things, you have to make friends with the men and women at your state capitol that have similar sentiments.

I worked downtown for years. Guns should be issued when you register for classes at GT.

It is prohibited by OH state law to carry on any campus/university property. Incidents involving students at OSU are not uncommon, but the recent shooting by the OSU worker certainly is. It was only a few years ago that three students were killed in theiir off-campus housing. Others have suggested reasonable ideas to stay safe, but it will take many years to have the OH general assembly change the law regarding carrying on universities. The current bill to allow carrying in places that serve alcohol is still buried.

I doubt that I would risk carrying on campus due to the consequences if caught. Good luck and stay safe.

University? University kids? Green? Healthcare per Obama? Love that guy? Mommy and daddy paying the bills? Handgun carry? Are you kidding me? When they all grow up and find out that there is nothing left in this country for any of them--maybe they will figure out who this loose lug nut in the whitehouse really is.

Maybe she doesn't think she needs any form of protection, but ask those girls what they whether a gun would have helped them.

Nicely said. Carry on UofO campus is a highly debated topic right now which I am following closely.
It is utterly illogical to believe that passing laws to reduce gun violence will be successful when those who are commiting the gun violence do not obey the law.

Looks to me like there are some serious concerns at Ohio S. they need to get their house in order.
