Handgunlaw.us Needs Assistance on Permit/License Statistics

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. contacted me wanting info on the number of Permit/Licenses issued by state. Handgunlaw.us does not have that info. I am wanting to assist him in finding this info and you are the best source available. If you could post a link to your states Statistics on the number of permits/licenses issued I will assemble them and pass them on to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. I will also keep this list and most likely post it on handgunlaw.us as I get many questions about this subject.

If you could just post a link to the statistics in your state or any you know it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping out.

Not sure if an exact number for Virginia can be found, since the permits are issued by the Circuit Courts and not the state per se.

I did find an article from earlier this month where Del. Lingamfelter stated there were 214,000.

    Hope that helps you.

The last figures from the NY State Police that I saw in print concerning New York State handgun permits gave a figure well in excess of 800,000. That was back about 9-10 years ago. It may have gone up since then and I am sure it has..

Are those permits to own/purchase, or permits to carry?
I can't believe NY allows that many 'little people' to actually carry a gun out on the streets. It might scare Mayor Bloomberg.

The Virginia State Police compile those statistics. The most recent report available is for 2008. Here is a link to that report. They have prior annual statistics reports going back to 2000 available on the site. CHP data is on page 13 of the report.
