Kinda set the stage... I go into WW couple of times a week, one on the North side one on the South side, to check for ammo. I've got basically every caliber so whatever they've had over the last year I've bought a box or two. One day in WW the lady behind the counter was crying. I asked her if I could help and her son was missing and she was stuck at work. I said a prayer with her and told her I would continue to pray for her son.
Today I went in and was looking for 380 ammo. I've bought one box of target ammo in the last year and that was last week. I said hello as I walked by and she said nothing. I looked behind the counter where the ammo is and there was no 380. Most everything else but I've got most everything else as well. So, since they pulled the 380 last week from under the counter I walked to the side (it is a public area) and saw a box.
She looked up from stocking and asked to help. Told her I was looking for a box of 380. She said we're out. I told her it looked like a box behind the counter. She got up in a huff and got it and put it on the counter. I wonder how many times over the last year I've missed out on ammo by not looking?
Maybe she just has lots of troubles at home and wasn't paying attention. The earlier comment about a missing son, the crying, and you don't know what is really going on. I'd "fergetaboutit." Give her a break in case she needs one.
The same thing happens here all the time. She's probably trying to save it for herself to buy when she gets off work or she is saving it for a friend. I ALWAYS poke my head around to look behind the counter.
I don't hold a grudge and that's been a while back when the missing son happened. Kinda thought I built a little relationship with her at the time. Guess not... Just found it interesting.
Sorry to hear about the folks having trouble finding .380 ammo. While I'll admit the choice is kinda slim, I can always find the JHP Gold Dots and PMC FMJ at my local GS.
She may have wanted it for herself and you beat her to it.:dunno:
Same thing happened at my local WW and LGS, they keep the WWB .380 behind the counter where you can't see it, and all other calibers in plain view. Past two times I called the LGS before I headed up there to ask if they have any .380, both times they reply no yet I have left with .380 both times.
Every time I ask a WW employee I get a different answer. So I think they have a deal to sell it out the back door, wink, wink, nod, nod. How can the biggest retailer in the nation not be able to get any? Oh, Yeah, they told me to come in at 7am, I did, no ammo. Nobody waiting for it.
It's funny how you posted this. I just got back from a 3k+ mile east coast road trip yesterday. throughout the trip I had been stopping by the Wal-marts on the side of the highways in search for .45acp ammo. .45 has been very hard to come by in FL. I believe I was in NC somewhere, probably along I95 when I stopped off for lunch at a Chikfila. There just happened to be a super walmart up the road, decided to give it a try. When I got to the counter, I was amazed by the selection of ammo. A box of 9mm WWB, 6+ boxes of .40 federal, 2 boxes of bulk UMC .40. I got into a conversation with the young lady behind the counter about .45 and some other random ammo topics. She said I missed the .45 by about 2 days and that she usually has some in her secret stash, under the counter. Someone had raided her secret stash also, but she reached wayyyyy back under the counter and giggled some stuff around to make sure....... For now on I'm going to check the secret stash!
She went on to say that the .45acp and "some type of special 38" ammo are the most in demand....
Also mentioned by the employee, a Wal-Mart conspiracy theory about WM rationing certain ammo types because "they" don't want us to have them. Is she on to something?
That could be due to anything. Bad burrito ... 243rd customer that day ... no aspirin ... you caught her "reserving" it for a friend (your assumption) ... been on her feet all day ... whatever. Hard to know, with so little to go on other than "huffiness."
I gave up trying to buy ammo at WW. If they think someone else's $$ is going to improve the profit margin more than mine, so be it. Besides, after seeing WW, Hommy D, Lowes and others all put the local shops and hardware stores out of business, I think we need to spend a dollar or two more and keep the gunstores, etc. in business.
i know were my local ww's secret stash is at and always check it first. i found out about it while a was standing at the counter. i looked down through the hole were the wire for the register goes and saw .38 special. walked around side and there were bout ten boxes. they definitely stash them so that people have to ask for them if they really want them and then try to limit you.
WW has had a bug up their but about ammo and guns since Michal Moore
staged a "buyout" of all the ammo in the home town of a teen who was paralyzed by being shot with ammo bought from that store.
At the time they had 3000 some odd rounds and he bought it all so no one else would get any and harm anyone with it.
I saw this on one of his propaganda films and it has had them rattled ever since.
He was pressureing them to stop selling guns , but they basicly told him to buy them all too if he was so worried, and then come back for the next weeks truckload too. He is probably hoarding and waiting to sell it at inflated prices .
I'd Like to be abble to tell Michal Moore Were he can PUT THAT AMMO ; )
