Hornady Custom 140-grain .38 XTP
Does anybody have any experience with this round? I recently came into a box of it and the on-package specs claim 900FPS. I'm curious about how it would perform from a S&W 442. Any input would be appreciated.

"Skin that smokewagon!".
No direct experience with that round, but if you dig out the "Ballistics by the Inch" reference you'll see than not even a 110 gr Cor-Bon reaches that kind of velocity from a 2-inch, unvented barrel. Most likely the 900 ft/sec is a 4-inch barrel value.
From the trends in that study, you could predict about a 25% drop in MV with a 2" barrel compared to a 4".

According to Horandy 7th Addition Manual the 140g HP-XTP is designed to perform between 850-1600 fps. Since this would be pushing the limits of a snubby, I stay away from it for 38 spl. Makes a nice bullet for 357 mag.
