Very nice summary. He concludes with what we all know but he's very open along the way in his analysis. I trot out the door sometimes w/only my P238 but I recognize the trade off I make in doing so. I think everyone that carries the caliber would do well to read this one so that trade off is understood. The caliber is a long long way away from the be-all, end-all. But it is handy.

I feel both comfortable and safe carrying my Bersa 380cc filled with Hornady Critical Defense. Although the .380 remains smallest ammo I would carry, the modern .380 self defense round is in no way like our father's and grandfather's .380 round.

When they start making 9mm the size of the Ruger LCP, Kahr P380, etc. then I'll start carrying the 9mm. It's just too easy and convenient to slip a .380 in your pocket all of the time.

Disclaimer: I know the Rohrbaugh is the size of these guns, but I've seen one in person or had a chance to buy one.

Good post. I think everyone should have a minimum caliber in mind for CC and stick with it. My minimum is 9mm and nothing less.

    This article: Bersa Thunder

played a big role in me buying a Browning BDA to carry in place of my J frame, a lot of the time.

    Thanks!

I like the DPX very much and carried it for sometime, but I have moved to the Hornady Critical Defense. I think the Hornaday CD will penetrate a bit deeper when shot through layers of clothing and has less opportunity to clog and fail to expand properly as a result. Both rounds are great rounds though...hard to go wrong with either in my opinion.

The biggest problem with the .380 isn't the round, it's the itty bitty guns people carry it in. Small guns are more difficult to shoot well, even in a relatively low power caliber like the .380. I would be reluctant to carry one of the micro-compact .380s as my sole firearm, but I would not feel under-armed with the same caliber packaged in a reasonably sized gun (say, the Glock 25).

Thanks for posting, that is a good site i spent about an hour reading his pages.
You may not like guns. You may choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.
However, if someone breaks into your home at 3AM the first two things you are going to do are:
    1) Call someone with a gun.
2)Pray they get there in time." - A wise man

I've been visiting this forum for some time, but just decided to sign up. Stephen Camp's article was well stated. I never go anywhere without my Glock 23, but I also carry a LCP as a bug. A few nights ago I made a quick run to the store. Though it was rather late at night, I got a little lazy and for the first time in years I left my Glock and home and took only my LCP. Though nothing happened, a situation did occur that could have quickly developed into something serious. I found myself feeling rather naked and criticized my stupidity all the way home.
