9mm Magtech vs. DPX
Something has been bugging me about these two rounds...
Magtech First Defense
CorBon DPX
Magtech has had this style of rounds for several years now even before CorBon came out with the DPX round. The expansion results are are close to a mirror image of one another. Both are solid copper, simillar ft/sec, simillar muzzle velocity, both are reputable companies....
Online and in gun stores around here the Magtech is about $20 a box and the DPX is about $40....
Help me here...What is the real difference? Am I missing something? I bought 2 boxes of the Magtech today, shot it and I can't believe how good it spit out of my G19...Anyone use this for carry?

Hogdaddy,
I carry Speer, Winchester, Hornady, CorBon...My G19 eats 'em all! I just can't bring myself to buy the DPX...(My girlfriend did buy me the .380 DPX as a stocking stuffer last year)...I just can't see spending $40/box for 20 rounds...

I saw no real difference between MagTech and DPX other than MagTech has a slightly thicker nose cone. BARNES X COPPER BULLETS WORK!
BTW I think the 9mm's would logically perform somewhere between the 38 and 357.

Right now, I have my Glock 19 loaded with Magtech Guardian Gold....I tested a box of them about 6 months ago, and with the basic wet phone book and water jug tests they seemed to work pretty darn good, for a less expensive brand of JHP. I prefer other brands, but that was what was available on the shelf at Cabelas at the time.

This is the article that turned me off of magtec for defense ammo:
The Box O' Truth #26 - Little Guns vs. The Box O' Truth - Page 1
On the second page of it he shows that one magtec round was a crap round and just bounced off the target. I dont know if it was maybe that "one in a million round" that has an issue but ive seen better track records with other ammo. I still use their ball ammo for target though. Its cheap and works decent so why not?

I dunno about Magtech, but Corbon DPX has one BIG + for it - consistency. In all ballistics tests: ALL rounds expanded 100% with virtually no weight loss.

I can think of better ways to waste money than to buy all these hyped up handgun loads.. I promise you that the win ranger 127 +P+ or Speer Gold
Dot 124 +P will work every bit as well for half the cost.

Used to be that Federal HST was cheaper than both ($20/50) but they've dried up.

Sure they will-----MAYBE ! That "maybe" is why I choose to buy, and carry, the very best there is to protect my life and the lives of those I love.
