    What defensive ammo for a 3" .40 XD?

    Hi,

    I'll be picking up a new XD40sc in a couple of weeks. What defensive ammo would you recommend for a 3" barrel?

    All the ammo listed above ia premium ammo.

    I use some of the ammo listed above in a G27, and know of no shortcomings.

    It doesn't make much difference as the gasses will have expanded mostly within the first 2 inches of the barrel. The velocity out of a 4" barrel will be 1000-1350 fps and you will only lose 50-70 fps by switching to the shorter 3". In general when you use a shorter barrel you may want a faster burning powder. A heavier bullet will tend to give you more penetration.

    Any of the ones listed will work but I prefer the 155-165 gr. JHP and good shot placement.
