Ammo works. Powder is a bit smoky, but every round goes boom.
Cheaper if you have lots of brass.

I have been to every Walmart in the city of Richmond. Each store has plenty of 40 cal and 9mm ammo. I have a Ruger SP101 and can't find any .38 ammo for it. I lucked up at Dicks sporting goods today and got 2 boxes for $18 a box. I have a .40 cal, so I guess my next purchase needs to be a 9mm if I want to shoot just as frequently.
im thinking of making the move to 40 cal. I have been a 45 and 9mm owner. But, go to ammotogo and and compare the 9mm selection to the 40cal selection. Plus, its a good excuse to buy a new gun.
Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it ......
I bet that Walmart stocks what they can sell in massive quantities, and ignores everything else. People don't bump-fire .38 weapons to act like an action hero, so not as much .38 ammo is sold.
I have been to places like Cabela's, Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, and normal local gun shops lately. There is plenty of .38 ammo available, both practice ammo and carry ammo. It is, however, a bit difficult to find my preferred .357 carry loads.
I did find some .38 ammo at some of the local shops, but for practice its a tad bit expensive. It is difficult to find .357 rounds.
My family: Glock 19, SW Sigma 40VE, Ruger SP101(.357), GSG-5k pistol (MP5 clone)(.22LR), Makarov .380
When I was shopping for my guns, one of the factors was the availability of ammo.
40 was abundant everywhere I went. So that is the caliber I chose, instead of getting another 1911.

Looking to get a .357/.38 in the next few weeks and around here its really hit or miss at walmart. Sometimes they have a lot of it sometimes they don't. 9mm and .40 are usually always stocked. I got lucky and saw some federal 9mm for 9.47 a box. That's the cheapest I've seen around here in Raleigh, Durham area of NC. Before that it was 13.99 for 50. So i just went with wwb for 23.99. I grabbed 5 boxes, probably go back and get more if they still have some on friday when I get paid.
Hard to find .45 and 38 special. .357 sig has also dried up at my ww. Wonder why that is ?
