    Longest range lever action caliber

I know very little about ballistics in general so I figured I would pose this question here. Out of all of the calibers available for lever action rifles. What are the top three for max effective range. If you could rank them 1 2 and 3 it would be most useful!

    Thanks!

There are a lot of calibers available. I would consider the Browning BLR in 300 Win Mag near the top in max effective range.

The Browning BLR is chambered in fifteen calibers. There's bound to be something long-range enough for you there.

Personally, I like this rifle in .243 Winchester, though it probably doesn't meet your criteria.

Oh boy! That's a loaded question.

You can have any caliber in a lever action, so the answers are going to be many.

Do you want traditional lever action calibers?

The .45-70 has the energy to kill at quite a distance. The problem is that the trajectory resembles a rainbow.

The .450 Marlin is a new creation of the .45-70, a little hotter.

The new .338 Marlin Express claims to have similarities to the ole '06. A cartridge that can kill a man at quite a distance.

The new .308 Marlin Express is impressive on paper, though not quite as impressive as the .338.

In the BLR, you can get any popular centerfire cartridge, the sky is the limit. .308, .30-06, .270, .243, .223, etc.

Maybe you need to determine your desired effective range, then we can go from there.

Yeah that 7mm mag will go a LONG way. There are plenty of calibers that will go a long way. I was going to say the .45-70 Nitro is a very effective cartridge at long distances as well; that said, it will have a lot of drop at distance because it is a big bullet.

Why stop there? Does it have to be a lever action? Heck, a British sniper just hit two Taliban at 8150 feet (that's over 2700 yards) with a .338 Lapua. That's something like 150 MOA drop over the 3-second flight. WOW.

I guess the question I would have is what do you want the gun for. What or who are you wanting to shoot with it, or what game species are you looking at for the gun.

Hotguns listed what could be the top three, but they might not be the best for what you want it for.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.
