With no modifications is one round an easier shoot than the other? I'd think it will be somewhat relative to which Mfg, that said, what's your experience?
I'm on the hunt for a lower recoil ccw not longer than 71/8" & not much heavier than 25oz but not a 9mm.

I went with the SA XD40 SC and love it. Good luck with your search.

I have the XD40sc as well and it is a dream to shoot and carry. To me, the recoil isn't any more than my 9mms. I am able to be extremely accurate with it from SD distances all the way out to 35 yards with a very short barrel. Staying on target with rapid fire seems very easy. It seems to me to be a good balance of power, projectile size, and capacity (I carry the 9+1 mag 99% of the time). I did not shoot the .45 Springfield as well (although it was not a sub compact model).

M&P40 or M&P40 compact or M&P45 or M&P45 compact.. the M&P40 is the same size as the M&P45 the compacts are a little different in size.

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.

If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.
