Wow, someone dug out an old thread. Here we go again with the ballastics arguments.
I just bought a S&W Model 36 Ser. #5235XX which puts the manufacture date in the mid 1960's range.
No way will +P ammo go into this gun even on a SD load only basis.
I bought some Magtech 158 gr. Semi-Wadcutter (non-hollow point) at 755 fps to try in it.
I like heavy bullets in all calibers as I am a deciple of penetration and breaking things.
I keep Nyclads in my wife's 638 because she is recoil shy due to her arthritis (not that she would notice in a SD situation) and using them in her gun keeps her carrying.
It is an accurate and soft recoiling round.
My concern with Nyclads is there possible lack of enough penetration.
My favorite load in +P rated .38 specials is the 158 gr. +P LSWCHP.
My $.02.

Don't know much about the ammo in the OP but the Gold Dot is well regarded and the Winchester PDX-1 130 grain +P has done very well in standardized gelatin testing, even from 2 inch barrels.
I don't think you could go wrong with either of these loads.

I like Nyclad but they are not that hot putting out only 191 ft-lbs of energy.
I'd rather have the 158 gr SWC or SWCHP +P which puts out 278 ft-lbs of energy ! Heck 125 gr Golden Sabre +P put out 264 ft-lbs !
In a non+P load I'd rather have the 130 gr FMJ load, at least they will penetrate well, or a 125 to 158 gr JSP for the same reason.

IMHO ballistics on paper don't mean squat. Far more important than what you shoot; is how you shoot. Bullets don't win gunfights; mindset and tactics win gunfights. As for the Nyclad® being so weak; that is male bovine fecal matter. I've seen four folks shot with the standard pressure 125gr Nyclad. All four were one shot stops. In two of those cases the lowly standard pressure Nyclad® revoked the perp's birth certificate. It's a great load. If it wasn't why do so many LEO's (active & retired) carry it, and in addition why do their spouses; carry it?
