    .22 rimfire.... the assasin's choice......

always done quickly and usually to the back of the head....
From what Ive been told, the .22mag has a higher muzzle velocity than many other handgund rounds.

Actually, the .17HMR far outdoes (at least in MV) the .22WMR (or .22Mag). the Hornandy load pushes a 17 grain V-Max bullet at a MV of 2550 fps and ME of 245 ft. lbs

The .22WMR shows the catalog velocity of the 40 grain bullet to be 1480 fps from a pistol. CCI, Federal, Remington, and Winchester all load ammunition with 40 grain bullets to this standard. It was originally loaded to 1550 from a pistol but was reduced due to pressure.

I normally don't get into the caliber wars, but I would never carry a .22 for self defense. Yes, you may stop them with multiple shots or a well placed shot, but the likely hood of alot damage being done to you in the process is high. Buy something else because what you are going to pay for a decent 22 you can get nice used snub .38 or maybe even a new one.

    How stupid of me!
How can I forget the .17HMR? Its my favorite rimfire cartrage.

    +1 to Blue Lions statement.

I can see why assasins would choose a .22 (Which many have for years) It can be a fantastic weapon for that purpose. With that said, if those same assasins knew they would be in a gunfight they would not still choose the .22 handgun.

.22 hollow point is not a bad BUG. I would rather have a .22 than a .25 any day. Really good for a plinking gun off the front porch. (Long as you dont live in town.)
    Carry 24-7 or guess right.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings knowing I had a 8-shot 22 mag snub in my pocket.

    No.1

I would carry something bigger, but the humble .22 round is apparently the number one killer (as in caliber) in the US.

Just a case of how long it takes to do it......

    Really? Not in town?

That might explain the strange looks I get from the neighbors!

I do not advocate .22s as a self defense round ....... However, I do carry one on occassion. The rounds I use are CCI Stingers.
