    Howdy all,

Getting back to the original thread:

Is the Remington Ultimate Home Defense the same as the Golden Saber?

Early, but unconfirmed, reports are saying it's the same ammunition but in different apckaging to appeal to different buyers and get more shelf space. If this is true it makes me a happy camper, as then I only have to test one line of bullets to know that the other line will work in my gun, providing it works of course.

Confirmed reports are that Ultimate Home Defense is Golden Saber in new packaging to appeal to a different segment of the gun buying public.

So when you function test one line, you are really testing two different lines of ammunition, by the same manufacturer.

Golden Saber is a match grade round manufactured for high accuracy. The price is about $ 7.00 per 25 more than the HD round.
The HD round besides .45 ACP is also available in other popular pistol and revolver calibers, .380, 40S&W, 38SP+P & 9 mm.

Believe what you want to believe.

I know what I believe, and from whom I got the information. Like I said earlier, I'd had unconfirmed reports. Well, the reports have been confirmed. Sure, the mark-up isn't as high for the Ultimate Home Defense ammo, and companies can put whatever they want on a promotional brochure, but I'm telling you it's the same dang stuff.

I sell both. You can believe what you want. Unless you are an Expert I doubt that you will notice the difference. In fact I doubt that you and 99% of the people who discuss ammo by brand would be able to tell the difference in blind tests.

I chose the GS back in the mid 90s as the best hp design, from my own tests. It's still the best.

For all practical purposes, the UHD ammo is the same.

If you cannotget the Golden Saber for whatever reason, you can use the Ultimate Home Defense ammo. Me, I'll select whichever is cheapest and run with it. My sources, at Remington, indicate that they are basicly the same bullet in different packaging.

Same thing Winchester does. They have a Winchester Ranger Bonded LEO boxed ammo. It comes in 50 round boxes. Then they market the PDX1 in 20 round boxes to the civilian market. They stand to make more money this way and they don't necessarily want civilians buying their LEO branded ammo even though it is not illegal and I have never heard of a case where the manufacturer was gone after because someone defended themselves with ammo that came in a box of 50 and was typically marketed to LEO.

You are better off buying the 50-round boxes of heavy for caliber Golden Sabers or the similar Winchester Ranger T's - both have sharp-cutting reverse taper jackets that peel back like "talans" for increased performance. All manufactures are marketing LE bullets in 20-round boxes to civilians as a way to pad their profit margins during and after the ammo shortage.
Aim for the Thoracic Triangle Area between the armpits and the base of throat.

Remington's website has a tendency to lock up my computer for some reason. I don't like it, but I can't figure out why.

I have heard recently of a few "issues" with Ranger-T in regard to underperforming ammo. I don't have first hand knowledge of what problems there are, but some situations have been reported where a round failed to penetrate and expand to the tested specifications when used in certain LEO circles.
