    Ammo Question From Newbie

Hi guys and gals, complete newb here and wife thinks I'm turning into a "gun nut" whatever. Anyway the deals are on now for ammo. I need a lot of 9 mm and some 38 for practice as i'm signed up with a NRA instructor for lessons. Is the Wal Mart white box regular good stuff? I've read concern about it. Looks like Wal Mart or Cabela's is the place to go with?? Thanks

You'll rarely get a deal at Cabela's, but Wal-Mart has decent prices. If you start shooting a lot, look into buying by the case at gun shows or from on-line vendors like AmmoMan or AmmoToGo. Funny, years ago .38 Special was the cheapest stuff out there, but now it's even hard to find sometimes and it's no longer cheap.

A lot depends on what kind of ammo your gun likes. My 9mm likes WWB and Federal but it won't shoot S & B ammo. Find what your gun likes and fire away.

Maybe you can help save the hassle. Anyone know what 9 mm ammo the Springfield XDM likes? also, so the Wal Mart white box isn't lower quality then other stores?

No the white box ammo works just fine and the 100 round packs are priced nicely. If you need to buy a bulk amount look into ordering online

The like or dislike of a particular gun for particular ammo is generally determined by the specific gun, not by make or model.

I see no reason it wouldn't shoot any .38 or .357 ammo you feed it. Typically wheel guns don't have problems with ammo.

If you are fortunate enough to be close to a Cabela's, they have the best prices around. I have been buying Herter's 9mm for my wife lately. Just before Christmas in the middle of the week it was $8.39 a box, on the weekend, back to normal at $11.99 a box. Shoots fine in my wife's Glock 19.

Wal Mart is mainly my go-to-place for ammo now. Has been for a while I guess. Had few problems out of the Winchester white box bulk ammo. At this time, I don't think WM can be beat on prices. If you hate WM, then you find your own deal.....but it won't be as good.

Look for above average ammo specials from online retailers during January when sales are slower and customers are not spending as much while trying to pay for Christmas.

Martino, I have not found an ammo that the XD 9 does not like!

WWB, Federal Champion, Remington UMC, RWS all bought from Wal-mart for fair prices, great for practice, plinking, SD in a pinch, and everyone of them goes through my GLOCK 19 just fine. My EDC ammo is Remington Golden Sabre which I have never seen at my Wal-mart. Good SD ammo is worth spending the money on and may need to be purchased online or at a gun store maybe even Cabelas if you have such a thing in your area.
