    10mm Personal Defense?

I've got a new (to me) Delta Elite in the shop having some upgrades done and have been researching ammo. One load has been recommended to me several times...the Buffalo Bore 180gr Gold Dots. Very fast stuff for a big bullet. Anyone have experience with this load or want to share their favorites?

I don't have a 10mm but I have 2 friends that do. Both carry the Double Tap brand. They offer several different loads. I'd say any decent hollow point will do the job. Especially in 10mm. That is a nasty nasty round.

The two main LGS I visit in my area pretty much only sell Hornady Custom 180gr, seems like a good choice for most calibers though I do not personally own a 10mm. A Delta Elite is on my short list for things I would like to have.

I'm going to order a 10mm longslide this spring. It's not going to be a daily carry, but it might be occasionally. I've heard that full-power 10mm loads with hollowpoints are problematic because they're so fast they won't expand properly before they leave the average human body. It sounds unlikely to me, but am I missing something?

Unfortunately both BB and DT cannot get GD bullets so they are using substitutes. DT is using a Nosler and BB is using Montana Gold.

The new BB 180gr boxes are marked "Gold Dot". Would they lie?

Winchester Silvertips are my first choice. Great expansion an full power. After that anything Double Tap 155-180 is a great choice. Double Tap was created exclusively to supply full power 10mm. Since then they have expanded into a whole line of calibers, but Mike Mcnett is the 10mm ammo go to guy.

The statistics that are posted on the doubletap website for 10mm are. . . impressive. I wish they were a little cheaper, but in the defensive, tactical, and hunting ammunition markets, they aren't bad either. The pistol I'm getting will come with a .40 barrel for practice though.

Yes they are expensive, but if you compare the their 50 round boxes to whats out there by others, its not out of line. Call and talk to Mike, as sometimes he will fill a custum order if you have a bullet preference or something.

I have a Delta Elite. I don't think you need full house loads for SD with a 10MM. Depending on what situation you are in over penatration could be an issue. A lot of the 10MM loads that I build are more like the 40 S&W. I defiantly like the full house loads for hunting.
You stated that your gun comes with a 40 cal barrel. My Delta was a jam a matic with the 40 cal barrel until I recently got the proper 40 cal mags. I got a Colt mag and a Wilson mag. The Wilson did not like my Federal JHP. Runs great with the Remington JHP. I did a little modifying on the Wilson with a dremal tool and now it is feeding the Federal.
Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around laws. Plato

I'm getting a Fusion Custom 1911. He includes a magazine for each kit, as well as separate recoil springs. I'm assuming from reviews that both builds are going to be great :)

I have used the 10mm for a long time. I do not carry it for SD, or shoot it for recreational purposes. I use the 9mm/40 or 38/357 for SD work. If you have a 10mm, shoot 10mm in it, otherwise there is no point in having it.

I just want to be able to practice without having to pay close to $1/round. My daily carry is an XD40, so having a .40 barrel makes it easier and cheaper to practice with the new gun, which has different controls and feel than my XDs.

Plus it gets rid of the longslide .40 bug as well, that almost led me to buy an XD40 Tactical, when I already have the subcompact and service models :-D

I got my BB 180 grain JHP last week and they don't mention what bullet is being used.

They say heavy 10m 180g JHP. If they are GD, great. If not, they still make a big deep hole.
