Ammo for 45c
I just purchased an M&P 45c to compliment my M&P40. I was curious what kind of defensive ammo 45c owners have had good luck with. I am familiar with Ranger-T, HST, and Gold Dot. I am wondering if the shorter barrel would cause one to go with hotter ammo to compensate for the velocity loss. Any insight from you fellow 45c owners would be most appreciated. FWIW, I do own some other 45ACP pistols but they are of the 1911 variety.

In all my .45 pistols I use standard pressure 230 grain. I currently have mine filled with Ranger T's. But I also have Gold Dot's and HST stored in ammo cans. I buy those brands based on price and availability.
All three are good and will perform well for you too.

Hmm, thanks for the replies, I think maybe the 230 grain Gold Dot or HST might just be the ticket

pick a round that works well and then shoot it in low light to check muzzle flash.

I would not go with a hotter round; I'd stay with a standard velocity, 230gr bullet. Heavier bullets tend to perform better and lose a lower percentage of velocity than lightweight screamers in short barrels. The Gold Dot, HST or Ranger-T you mention will do just fine, assuming your M&P likes them.

I have always liked the Corbon 165+P and the 185+P's but currently I am running the 165+P powerballs through mine.

Use Ranger-T 230 +P with no problem. Easily controllable. Flawless function
