Anyone have thoughts on this ammo?

With my newly aquired (will be bringing home this week) G19 I have been researching ammo for carrying and home defense. I came across the Glaser Blue Safety Slug ammo that seemed like a logical choice due to reduced chance of over penatration. What concerns me is it is a 9mm slug but only 80grain. The positive side of it is that my house is very small and if I were to have to shoot I think over penetration will be something to I have to strongly consider. Also when I travel to places like Las Vegas, Memphis and Dallas I think having something that may not over pentratate would just seem logical, not only in the street but in a motel/hotel room.

    Thoughts?

I would never carry that stuff on the street. In a house it might have some limited value, I think you may end up with too little penetration.

+1 Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P in my opinion is the only way to go for 9mm SD ammo.

+1! The Glaser was designed specifically to avoid over penetration. That means drywall, doors, heavy jackets, etc. Neat concept, but if you are carrying for SD, put yourself in the most advantageous SD position - use ammo that will stop the threat regardless of clothing worn by the BG.

Concur. This is a tried and true round.

I can see being concerned about over-penetration with say, a 10mm fmj. However, the objective of the firearm is to shoot things, right? At some point you can let safety concerns argue you into carrying blanks.

I carry Remington Golden Saber BJHP 124-grain +P in my 9mm pistol because it is readily available and affordable for me in Costa Rica.

In terms of great ammo for self-defense in the 9mm cartridge, I would choose between the Remington Golden Saber BJHP 124-grain +P, Speer Gold Dot 124-grain GDHP, Federal Hydra-Shok 124-grain + P, Cor-Bon DPX 125-grain, Federal HST 124-grain +P or Winchester Ranger SXT 127-grain +P JHP.

Here is a good expansion test example of several self-defense loads in 9mm:

Another vote for Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P...it is all I carry in my 9mm...

They're very expensive, and overpenetration is overrated.

Here's another vote for the overrated concerns for over-penetration and for the expediency of using ammunition that best insures penetration rather than potentially sacrifices performance.

I've been intending to get some of the Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P 9mm ammo to replace the old Winchester Black Talon used when I infrequently carry a 9mm. The Speer load looks good.
