It is not recommended without a .22lr cylinder, due to variations in case size, strength and projectile differences.

NO. If you have a .22lr cylinder then you can, but the 22mag cylinder cannot safely fire .22LR.

There was an outfit or two making sleeves so .22lr could be fired in mag cylinders. Don't know if they are still made or not.

No, the cylinder in the Mag is to large, you'll need the conversion kit for the 22 LR .... go to Brownells.com and you may find one , I'm not sure about where to buy it ... but you'll be a "test pilot" with a questionable outcome if you try it ... don't do it ;)

Ditto. Most .22wmr revolvers that I've seen offer a .22lr cylinder. Spend the money. Some, like NAA Mini's require you to send it in to have the timing on the cylinder aligned, unless you buy it new with the spare cylinder like I did. I don't know if all manufacturers require that, but Mini's require very tight tolerances, being so small.

The case head is thicker and bigger around so the lr will go in deeper; then the case will split if it fires jamming the case in the cylinder and probably against the recoil shield as well.
