Poor man's ammo test
Lots of folks have short barrel 9mms now so maybe this would interest someone. Newsprint soaked for 24 hr and drained for 30 min covered with layer of denim and two heavy towels used for test. Chronographed 5 rd avgs. I was primarily interested in standard load performance in a PF9 but results may be close to what other similar 9mms would produce? FNP9 and and Colt tested too just as after thought. Had tested the 45s out of 5" 1911 but not Commander.

Looks like the 9mm has as good penetration as the 45's do. Expansion is not quite as good in the 9mm but then again your starting from a much smaller diameter to start with along with less mass to force the expansion.
Nice layout, thanks for the time to test them.
I have some Speer GD 115 set aside to run through a PF9 when it arrives. From your test it appears this will be a good choice as long as it eats them like it should.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

I've always liked the Federal HS and HST stuff but after looking at your pic I am going to run some Speer GD thru my carry gun and she how she eats it. Thanks for sharing.

I can live with 115 GD and if need be the WWB and SXZ. While I was really impressed with the Black Hills 115 EXP, it must be right at the "edge" of being +P. Fastest standard pressure I've ever tried. Uses Nosler bullet. Just not sure if wear & tear on gun any less than with +P. $30/50 at Midway and Ammotogo.
