Seems the Army has finally figured out the 5.56mm needs some rework: New Army Ammo Puts Mean in

They've taken a page from the 5.7 X 28 on pentration. As a Viet Nam Vet the 5.56mm was never on my list of perferred rounds!:aargh4:

These rounds don't improve it much and it is still an inferior round to the 7.62 either Nato or Russian.

Hmmnn?...........I'm sure this new steel core round works better for chewing through hard cover, but how does it really act on a meat target? One of the benefits of the original lead core bullet was its ability to fragment apart starting at the cannelure in the jacket upon entering a meat target.
