Except some of my .45's have 15 rounds...

The main reason I am going for a Glock 17 over a 21 is because I can afford twice as much 9mm as I can .45ACP.

Once I am out of school, I'll probably get the 21 to keep the 17 company.

While 9mm has made great strides over the last handful of years, the .40 has also made strides. The .40 is now the most common caliber carried by law enforcement so there is no chance of it becoming "obsolete". Further, in the various reports on stopping power the .40 is virtually tied for first place with the .357 magnum.

.40 is also the caliber being abandoned the most by police agencies who are switching calibers.

Usually it's up to .45(acp or GAP), or down to 9mm.

And the whole "stopping power" study has been shown to be bogus...

Yeah, Nothing short a Youtube video of you blasting some silhouette targets away will do!

    Justified,

I've been wanting to due exactly that. I in time am going to purchase several different ammo types and calibers to due some slightless than scientific test for expansion & penetration. I would like to get some balistic gellatin to make the test more like a real life scenairo.

I have, and carry a .380, 38, 9mm, 40, & 45 at various times. I would like to better understand how each gun I use performs with various ammunitions as I'm sure we all would.

Awh, just go and shoot the snot outa it, and make sure to have fun while you're at it... We'll take your word for it; heck, it's a Glock after all right!

Just be cautious shooting reloads outa it. The G23 had/has a issue with the unsupported chamber at the feed ramp and has been known to blow out old reloaded brass. I'm not sure if they have changed or made any adjustments to the newer G23, but My G23 has one of the older barrels in it and I've had no problems at all; but then again I never shoot anything buy Factory rounds in any of my firearms.

Have fun, BTW congrats on the new Glock!

Shoot some guns chambered for 9 and some chambered for 40. Then pick the round you shoot the best with. Either will do fine.

To an extent, the gun store guy was right. 9mm ammo has made some real advances in the last several years. But so has .40 ammo. That's because there has been advances in ammo technology all around. I carry one of 4 guns. In .40 cal I carry either an XD 40 service size, or a Glock 23 Gen 3. in 9mm I primarily carry a Kahr CW9 with an older Taurus PT111 as a back up to the back ups. I don't feel under gunned when I carry 9mm. The most important aspect of surviving any gun fight is shot placement. No matter what caliber you are using. I'll take a hit with a .22lr over a miss with a .45 any day.
