Welcome! The oval holes sound like key holing. The bullet is tumbling in flight and strikes the target at an angle instead of srtaight on. You were correct to switch ammo. I don't know much about the 442. Just make sure it's rated for +P ammo.

The PDX 1 is the same ammo as the Ranger T-Series Bonded. The 4 differences I am aware of:
    1) nickle plated cases on the PDX1 versus brass
    2) different packaging
    3) the FBI endorses the PDX1 "BRAND"
    4) the price that goes along with the FBI endorsement is twice that of the T-series

If you search the forum for this load, I believe I posted Winchester's ballistic data for this cartridge. I got it from one of their techs. I would repost it, but the file is on my work computer. It looks roughly equivalent to the 135-gr. Gold Dot load, IMHO. I'm carrying this now in a Ruger LCR.

Your 442 should not keyhole with the GD, that load is well proven and within the range of bullet types and weights the gun is designed for. I'd call Smith or see your local gunsmith. It may be a quick and easy fix.
