And the problem with HCD having feed issues is not the weight, it's the fact that Hornady put a freakin' rubber brake pad in the nose.
Re-read the statement I posted. The 1911 was designed to run 230gr ball ammo. The original .45acp cartridge was in fact 200gr but that was in 1906 and it had been revised multiple times before the 1911 was even invented. So you are right about the "original" .45 acp cartridge, but I am right about what cartridge the 1911 was built to fire.

I picked up a box today 45 auto HCD and after doing lots of research this is my new choice of SD ammo. I currently use golden sabre and have heard good things about them but these hornadys blew me away when I saw how it expands even through thick clothing which is a downfall to golden sabre HP and other HP ammunition put there.

Me, I'd rather carry ball than Critical Defense.

Give me a 230gr Ranger-T any day...and usually for cheaper than what HCD runs.
What is ball ammo if you don't mind me asking? Is it the name of a manufacturer?

How much thick clothing do you see down in Miami?

Ball ammo is just an old fashioned way of saying FMJ.

    *sigh*

There are plenty of rounds out there that expand just fine through heavy clothing and denim, don't have a giant speedbrake on the nose, and are designed to perform through intermediate barriers.
    I collect ammo, not guns.

Ball--hardball--FMJ. And I stand by my statement--.45FMJ would be a better choice that the gimmick noseplugged HCD.

And as Texag said above, there are several rounds that have no issues with heavy clothing, and still expand. HST, Ranger-T, and Gold Dot, for starters.

Add me to the list who leave Critical Defense ammo on the dealer's shelves.

    Ranger-T, PDX-1, even Hydra-Shok before CD.

LOL. I had a Ultra Carry II which fed all I tried in it about 10 difrerent makes and weights. The HCD shot very accurately but when I tried to do a reload drill that "rubber brake" would hangup on the ramped barrel. I couldn't trust it after that. I ended up running 230gr. Ranger T +P which feed great and shot great for me.

If by guaranteed you mean it sometimes doesn't, you may be correct...
