The .45 acp is a really nice, classic, historically effective self-defense cartridge. I've stayed with it for a very long time. There is a very wide selection of cartridge offerings. Pick one that will feed flawlessly in your firearm and it will serve you well.

Almost the same amount of lead carried in each gun. Choose what you shoot best. Nothing like a big .45, but my 9mm is plenty capable.
    Eight is almost 12?

Congrats on the new M&P. What ever the caliber, if the M&P is the pistol that launched it, you're doing just fine IMO.

Regardless, once you fire the big bore .45, anything less just seems like, well less.

I like my xd45C, 10+1 compact, or 13+1 in home defense mode or when I reload.

For the folks who feel that "bigger is better", why did you stop with the sissy .45? Why not step up to a REAL man's round and shoot a .50?

This thread isn't really a caliber war so my comment isn't intended to start one. But "bigger IS better". Tough to conceal a desert eagle or red hawk alaskan in .455 casull though which is why I don't carry one. All that said, I carry a 9mm because it conceals the best for me, I can shoot it rapidly and accurately, and ammo is so much cheaper so I can practice more. Whether you carry a .45acp or 9mm, putting it where it counts is what matters (if you get shot in the face, you will stop fighting no matter if it was a 9mm or .45acp I promise you that). But in all reality, .45 > 9mm so the guys who carry the "big guns" have a point.

, I was more just trying to have a little fun than start a caliber war. Its all personal preference....for personal defense purposes all that matters is that you are carrying.

I'm not arguing at all. I enjoy the science in ballistics. And I know of what the OP is speaking of, because now that I have switched back to 9mm from my .45, looking at my 9mm bullets now makes them seem like .22's. Just something comforting about .45 when you hold that bullet in your hands vs. 9mm.

Ya, but that adds up to 9 as in 9mm. Just saying.
