I carry to protect myself and my loved ones from the BG's. Not to solve societies problems. That said: if more carried the deterrent would only have a positive overall effect on those problems.

Except that, as noted, every (or nearly every) law enforcement agency in the country issues or requires the use of some sort of expanding ammunition, and that the recommendation from many litigators/expert witnesses/etc is to use a round similar to (if not exactly the same) as the police in your area. You are therefore able to say, "I'm not trying to be Rambo, I just assumed that the police would use the best, safest bullet around."
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Wow this thread is full of myths.
FMJ penetrates clothing better so don't carry JHP in the winter.....
Hollow Points will get you in trouble with a jury......
What is next? The .45 ACP removes limbs with a single shot?
.45 ACP will stop a man and throw him backwards?

The .45 ACP will not only remove limbs with a single shot or throw a man backwards, it kills tanks too!

It does ... if the tree limb is small enough. :)

I'll stick with the 230 gr JHP for self defense. I quit listening to all the internet drivel a long time ago.

I did find a documented case of .45 ACP overpenetration with injury during the last iteration of this topic. I'll have to search for it.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

You didn't see that coming, LOL.

I know right...
What's funny is that a 230 gr. .45 ACP FMJ bullet can't even penetrate a single layer of Level II Kevlar.
Just sayin.'

It is also well documented that the .45 "ball" rd will shoot thru two men's torsos, so to say it does not overpenetrate is to commit a huge error.
Can you please point me in the direction of this well documented fact?
Still waiting?

While I'm not for or against his argument of whether or not a .45 FMJ can pass through two mens torsos (why that would matter is strange). It is shown in gel tests that .45 FMJ will penetrate over 2 feet of gel which would equal if not be MORE than "two mens torso's". Of course, gel tests lack bone. And it's just gel, it's not real life. Just thought I'd throw that out there :)

Thats why they don't even bother using the .45 ACP for testing body armor any more. There are vests that will reliably stop the .45 ACP that get shredded by other rounds. With increased use of ballistic nylons, kevlar, and other ballistic rated fabrics in high end outer wear and athletic wear I am considering switching my P220 from being my cold weather pistol to being more for summer carry and staying with my 127 grain Ranger T 9mm pretty much year round.
