Exotic ammo vs the jury
What do you think of ammo like RBCD or Extreme Shock?
What will the jury think?
I was watching demos of RBCD ammo and they're pretty devastating but are we supposed to stop the BG and not kill 'em?
I read so many articles on self defense that I'm conflicted, kill or not kill. Duh.

The safe answer is to carry what your local PD carries. If it's good enough for them.... And who knows what a jury will think.
No, I don't care for the exotic name branding. Gold Dots or Golden Sabres is a pretty unassuming name. I use Gold Dots and PDX1s (That ought to leave the jurists scratching their heads).

I agree with OldVet. Can't go wrong with the Gold Dots, and that doesn't sound like an ominous name to me at all. They definitely have a strong record though.

I run with winchester personal defense rounds.... so see how the jury would get that twisted, i think its pretty self explanatory.

I use Winchester Ranger. After all, being in Texas who could say anything called "Ranger" is bad?

Why is that? This demo seems pretty conclusive.

You are supposed to stop the threat, no more, no less. If the BG dies, it is a side-effect of you stopping the threat in a quick and effective manner, like a CNS shot. But you aren't trying to kill, you are trying to stop that imminent threat as quickly as possible.
RBCD and Extreme shock have shown me no proof that they are worth the prices they charge for that stuff. IF it was so amazing, don't you think more police departments and federal agencies and top tier trainers/shooters would be using them? But they are a gimmick, that really do nothing better(and often things worse) than normal JHP from any number of reputable manufacturers.
EDIT: And back to the original question on juries. There are a lot of big name experts that you could call in to be a witness, who would support using JHP, which is meant to prevent over-penetration, for a self defense ammo. How many experts do you think would be lining up for Extreme Shock?

The three things that I look for in ammo are reliability, availability, and price. If you get involved in a self defense shooting and the court's decision on your guilt or innocence rests on the brand name of your ammo, you had a really weak case to begin with.

hmmm better get out the popcorn for this one
Been caught up in this one before.
I carry to protect myself and my loved ones from the BG's. Not to solve societies problems. That said: if more carried the deterrent would only have a positive overall effect on those problems.

I'm utterly unconcerned with this issue which is one of those "Chicken Little - The sky is falling" kinds of issues that sets so many fretful folks to worrying, dithering, and agonizing.
I'll carry whatever strikes my fancy including handloaded ammunition.
Buckeye.45 said it best and that's what I'm going to do.

If one is in front of a jury, ammo selection is going to be pretty low on the list of things to worry about.

We are supposed to shoot to stop the threat. If the threat happens to die while being stopped then o well
