This is a discussion on where do you buy your defensive ammo? within the Defensive Ammunition & Ballistics forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; Streichers, best price for Federal EFMJ and HST....
Streichers, best price for Federal EFMJ and HST.
Try to get it local if you can. Sometimes those shipping cost can "kill ya".
If you know what your weapon likes, hit all the gunshows. By it in case lots if you can.
Find some cheap practice stuff that will shoot to the same POI using the same POA.
Rotate your carry ammo by shooting it during practice at the range. I don't shoot my carry ammo very often. Just enough to put the newer stuff in my mags once a month or every 6 weeks. --------
I use Speer Lawman and Speer Gold Dots and try to buy locally either at Gunshows or local shops....

45ACP I buy locally from small gunshop, "ATF" stores, or gas stations. Yes, up here regular gas stations sell ammunition.
The "ATF" stores are party/ convienience stores. We call them ATF stores because they all sell alcohol, tobacco, and firearms, etc.

Probably the only home based FFL that doesn't do transfers.
Bulk buy it at gun shows. Usually wait until the last day of the show and then low-ball the vendor. I usually get my way.
Gunshows or http://www.sportsmansguide.com Gun show here in town this weekend. I'll pick up some defensive ammo there. But I get my bulk stuff from that website. I joined the "Buyer's Club" and I can pick up 50 rds of 9mm ball for about $5.80 per box for "American" brand ammo. It's good for IDPA. Good for practice.

Just a little heads up, Natchezss does NOT ship to TN addresses. Not sure why, maybe a sales tax thing but being in Nashville it really sucks 'cause their prices and selection are pretty impressive.
I just placed my first order with Midway this morning, first time I've used my C&R discount on anything and I saved a bit over $15 on a small order ... suh-weet!
Among other stuff, I ordered a box of Black Hills 230gr. "remanufactured" fmj and a box of Wolf 230gr. fmj to try them out as range ammo. Case prices on both are nice so I'll stock up on whichever one my Mil-Spec likes best. Never cared much for Wolf before but the price is good and I like the idea of stock piling sealed "spam cans" if it functions well.
Man, this C&R license is handy!
I've never tried American ammo but I saw it on Midway's site. Have you tried their .45acp ball? What's your impression for basic range work (throwing lead in the "general" direction of the target. LOL).
