Glock 23 for Christmas
My wife bought me a Glock 23 for Christmas and this is the first Glock I've owned or have even shot. Today a bought a box of Winchester 165gr. FMJ to just target shoot and get use to the gun. I also bought a box Of Hornady 165gr. Critical Defense for conceal carry. After I bought the box a guy at Gander Mtn, said he wouldn't use that ammo for my gun, Whats up with the CD ammo that people don't like ???
Thanks in advance for any responses and looking forward to checking this site out more

"Some" firearms don't feed "some" rounds due to the shape of the bullets, etc. There's no way to know for sure until you try them. I doubt the Glock will have an issue, but the proof is in the testing at the range. The salesman probably didn't recommend it because he had some other, more expensive stuff to sell.

They underpenetrate, and are overpriced for what you get...for the price of those 20 rounds if CD, you could easily get 50 rounds of a better-performing round.
I'd suggest reading this: Thoughts on Service Pistols, along with Duty and Self-Defense Ammo Recommendations - M4Carbine.net Forums
Choose one of the loads listed (bearing in mind that while they all will perfrom equally well, more or less, some may be considerably more expensive and/or more difficult to find), load up a couple magazines, and see if you pistol is 100% relaible with them, and that you think they're accurate and controllable. If they are, buy a couple more boxes, load your mags, and be confident you have a street proven load that your handgun likes.

would recommend 180 gr JHP of any flavor over the Critical Defense. 180gr are heavier and have much better penetration....all I carry in my G23.
Kimbers are the guns you show your friends....Glocks are the ones you show your enemies.

Congrats on your new G23! I love mine. It's just compact enough to CC and very accurate.

True. I got my first Glock, a Gen 3 Glock 23, last March 8th, 2012, and you'll notice in my sig that they did multiply: Gen 1 G17, Gen 3 G23, and Gen 4 G26. Oh my.
