Laser guided bullet! Really! Accuracy issues, still being tweaked by Sandia Nat Lab

The First Self Guided Bullet | The Firearm Blog

Sandia National Laboratories have invented a small caliber self guided bullet. The bullet contains an optical sensor, CPU, battery and electromagnetic actuated fins. It is able to track laser designated targets out to 2,000 meters.

Computer simulations indicate that the bullet could theoretically get within 8" of a target at 2,000 meters.

Probably a little on the expensive side for SD. Would be fun though.

I cant see it being much use at ranges of less than 800 yards, where one could just scope and shoot.

On the other hand, 8 inches at 2000 yards is still in the kill zone, a feat that few people can accomplish.

When they get it perfected and it becomes used by the military, us mere civilians wont be able to own it without jumping through hoops placed there by the ATF.

It'll be labeled as a "destructive device" and be subject to a 200 dollar tax, a background check, two sets of fingerprints, two 2x2 photos and a 9 month waiting period..for EACH bullet.

    Mark my words.

Hmm... Maybe I will get to see one of these in real life.

With the advancements of nano-computing, I don't see why this wouldn't be possible. Ahhh, the future...

Isn't this what they were aiming at with gyro-jet back in the late 80's early 90's?
