I used some shotshells in my .22 rifle once. The pattern was atrocious, made a single lined arc with NO accuracy, like the shot was running down the rifling. Any idea if handgun shot is any different?

It works ok, except you have to be almost on top of the target. If it is a snake you best double tap it to get a pos spine hit. That means revolver because it won't cycle many pistols.
I am replying to bird shot question computer burp prob.
I agree, I keep an old 10 round mag for my G21 loaded with the (snake, bird,) whatever you want to call the "fine" shot shells for snakes. That way I can have my Glock loaded with nice Gold Dots, and have a mag of snake getters ready w/o having to carry two guns.
For protection, even with the buck shot rounds, too weak, nice idea though. But I'll pass. I can't see them being good for much more than small varmits, if you can get close enough to them.

If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand
I think so. Either MagSafe or Glaser (Silver) That's ALL I load into the primary mag of my carry gun. Sometimes I'll opt for RBCD.

Have spent allot of time in the river(and others) swamps of NW Fla. with sports that are not too up on thir handgun rds.
Have seen lots of the bigger snakes shot with the birdshot loadings from revo's. Believe me they ain't crap. You have to darn near get within strikeing distance for a #12 shot load to even get his attention. While scouting for hogs,my snake gun is a chopped(18") NEF 12ga. with my crow loads.(1 1/2oz.of #8 shot loaded very HOT !)
Would suggest that people stay away from those birdshot loads for killin' anything.--------
Well maybe not for killing a poisonous snake. But twice I have had a 'possum get inside my home (took us a heckuva long time to find and plug the entry point in our 1936 era home) and both times, I splattered it's skull with a shot round from a .22WMR Ruger Single Six. Killed the 'possum just fine. Fired from a range of about five feet. But you're right, I don't know as I'd like to get that close to a venomous snake. I killed a 6 foot cottonmouth up at my in-laws in north Florida that was in their hangar (the old man flies his own Pitts stunt planes and he's in his 80's) with a 45 ACP Glaser Blue. That was an easy 15 foot shot.
