Short barrel Gold Dot
Short barrel cartridges typically employ a powder charge that minimizes muzzle flash. Most will have a decreased velocity compared to "regular" loads of similar projectile weight, as one key component of velocity is the amount of gas producted on detonation of the powder. More violent, gaseous detonation=more flash, higher velocity. This decrease in gas formation also accounts for the more manageable recoil that is desired by many shooters using weapons with barrels <3 inches. Gold Dot in general is one of the best handgun carry loads available, as it utilizes a bonded bullet. This helps maximize expansion while preventing fragmentation. Net result is superior penetration compared to a non-bonded HP. In .357 Magnum, the Gold Dot 125 gr is a superior performer ballistically speaking, but there is a significant report and flash, moreso with a short barrel weapon.
