    I think I will stick with something with a little weight to it. Expansion without mass equals shallow penetration.

    I have fired 4 boxes of 40 S&W Critical Duty and it is OK ammo. Until is listed on the AR15 List of Ammo for SD I will not use for SD. I keep the following loaded between my two 40 S&W pistols:

    180gr Speer Gold Dot
    180gr Remington Golden Saber
    180gr Federal HST
    180gr Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel for my XD 40 subcompact since it has a 3" barrel

    I agree with Tony617's choices.
    I use 180gr Federal HST in my M&P 40 compact and fullsize.
    I use 180gr Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel in my 40 Shield

    I don't take ballistic advice from a dentist, sorry.
    I pack my .40 with either Corbon 135grn at 1325 fps with 526 FPE.
    Or
    Winchester Silvertip 155grn at 1205 fps and 500 FPE!

    I sometimes load a mag with Critical Defense 165grn just to mix things up.

    Any quality HP will do the job in .40, just buy it in quantity on the internet if you can afford it. No use in throwing money away. Just remember you can't keep rechambering the round in the chamber for carry ammo. You risk bullet setback, so keep enough on hand to rotate your carry ammo.
