Well I have a M&P 40c and as of now my bullet of Choice is the Federal 155gr HST. I am going to switch over to the 165 or 180 HST once I conduct my final testing on which one kicks less in my opinion and the 155gr will be the back up round.

I am trying Federal Premium LE HST Tactical, 9mm...see how it works this weekend.
For my S&W 649, I've been carrying the Speer .357 mag 135 grain GD JHP, short barrel. In the nightstand Model 28, I use the tried and true .38 special +P "FBI load". I have Remington .357 mag 125 grain JHP Golden Sabre in the speed loaders.
The one in the chamber of the weapon I have in hand, at the time.
As for preference, .45 ACP or .44 mag
Federal HST, Hornady XTP`s, Gold Dots
Brand name and magical sounding names or labels like extreme .... do little for me.
safe is full of many brands.
.25 auto 50gr ball keep it simple your only going to do so much with a 25
In the 380 around here a 95gr flat nose
.38's either a 130 flat nose or gold dot +P125 GDHP they will do the job. Sad how the .38 seems to have been forgotten
9mm in sub compact 115 gr in compact 124gr JHP in full size either the 124 JHP or 147 JHP

None of these choices are set in stone, there are so many options and in the real world most any of them will get the job done. If a hand Gun is used in SD it will be close.
Not like dropping a deer with a 357 close to 75 yards across the corn field ,yes it can be done.
I LOVE the Corbon DPX 185gr using the all copper Barnes bullet. Heavy hitter and leaves a huge wound cavity...like grapefruit size and bigger
