This question may have been answered in another thread, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a difference in the Speer Gold Dot LE vs. the standard SD ammo. I'm looking to buy more than just the regular 20 round box, but of course the LE is the only I can find with more than 20 rounds.
Probably somewhat of a noob question but thanks in advance for your input.

I'm pretty sure it's just the price and unwary shoppers spend almost as much for 20 rounds than if they bought several 50 round boxes figuring in shipping costs.

The LE is the same ammo, but in 50 round boxes, so you pay less per round.

I thought there were more in the LE boxes because it takes more shots for LEO's to hit their target..................... Sorry, It was to easy.

The cost is mainly in the more attractive packaging. I like colored boxes....anyone can get black and white boxes......I'd rather feel special. Then again.....my 'Take Me To The Cleaners' t-shirt says it all.

If you want to pay more for your GD buy the SD rounds. If you want to get a deal on the price by the LE rounds.

Some time ago I had the same question you did. I spoke with the Speer LE rep I deal with and was told that besides the different packaging ( 20rds vs 50rds ) the LE cartridges undergo a more strigent inspection before being packaged, basically each round is checked for quality. The SD rounds are not inspected that way.
I had the same question a while back. If you look at the part numbers, the LE packaging starts with 5 and the SD packaging starts with 2, but are otherwise the same. They're also in 50 and 20 round boxes.

First, 40s&w 165gr 'personal defense' ammo (23970) and 40s&w 165gr 'Law Enforcement' ammo (53970) appears to be identical other than quantity. Is this the case?

Part 23970 and 53970 are the exact same product, packaged two ways. The 20 packs are geared toward 'commercial' sales and the duty ammo toward Law Enforcement. The 50 packs are generally a better buy if you can find them.
