Speer Gold Dot is also very resistant to bullet set-back. Just FYI.
Yes, the LE loads are generally no different than the civilian load but some LE designated loads may have primer sealant added (a bonus). Ammo companies have a huge profit margin selling 20 rounds of premium ammo in fancy looking boxes. Get the L.E. packaging and save a lot of money. I have had only very positive experiences with SGammo.com.

Because of their bonded construction, GDs are going to give a little bit less expansion and slightly deeper penetration. Both have very high to complete weight retention in ballistics tests I have seen. You won't go wrong with either choice.
I wouldn't feel bad carrying around Federal HST, but Gold Dot is my antibiotic of choice.
Either load in 165gr will serve you well. Run three boxes of one through your gun, then stock up on that brand and never deviate.
My vote goes for the Speer Gold Dot 180 grain bullet. Kills stuff dead.
